May this year be a year of “progress in healing” for humankind!
The Year of the Horse, the seventh zodiac sign is said to symbolize vitality and progress. Let us also celebrate the “Year of the Unicorn” with its power of healing.
The unicorn symbolizes healing, courage, and strength, and is depicted as a single-horned horse. In India, where unicorns are said to have originated, they are depicted as wild donkeys the size of a horse. (Source: Ctesias, “The Indians,” verse 45)
The unicorn’s horn is said to have healing antidotal properties, and the unicorn’s speed was said to made it difficult to capture, earning it legendary status. For example, in Celtic mythology, the unicorn became a symbol of healing and purity.
The seal in this photo is from Mohenjo-daro (circa 3000 BC – 1300 BC), the oldest city of Indus Valley Civilization. Although the hieroglyphics remain indecipherable, it is evident that the unicorn is its most iconic symbol; it is frequently found on seals and stone tablets from this civilization, testifying to the animal’s importance in administration and ritual alike.
